Connecticut again misses goal for equity targets for COVID-19 vaccination; 22% of vaccine doses went to priority areas

For the second time since Connecticut set equity targets for COVID-19 vaccinations, Connecticut vaccine providers inched closer to but still ultimately fell short of their goal last week.

“I think we’re making progress. I don’t think we’re making enough progress,” Josh Geballe, the state’s chief operating officer, said last week.

State data shows significant disparities in Connecticut’s vaccination rollout so far, with white residents much more likely than residents of color — particularly Black residents — to have already received a vaccine.

In part as a response to those disparities, Gov. Ned Lamont and his team announced earlier this month that the state would encourage vaccine providers to allocate a proportional number of doses to residents of high-risk ZIP codes.
