Not a single phone was in sight and not a single conversation filled the air for nine minutes and 29 seconds at East Hartford’s Town Green Park Tuesday evening as community members bowed their heads and honored the anniversary of George Floyd’s death.
“I’m tired. I’m still tired. We thought it was eight [minutes and] 45 [seconds], eight [minutes and] 46 [seconds]. It turned out to be nine [minutes and] 29 [seconds],” said Vanessa Jenkins, one of the founders of the East Hartford Black Caucus, referring to the amount of time officer Derek Chauvin had his knee on the neck of Floyd.
