Child struck by teen driver near ice cream truck in Cheshire dies, police say

A Wallingford 10-year-old was killed after he was hit by a car while crossing the road from an ice cream truck Monday night in Cheshire.

The 17-year-old driver of the car remained on the scene and has cooperated with investigators, police said Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. Monday when 10-year-old Tristan Barhorst bought ice cream from a truck stopped on Wiese Road near Richmond Glen Drive, police said.

Barhorst then tried to cross Wiese Road from in front of the truck when a Jeep Wrangler approaching from behind the truck struck Barhorst while attempting to pass by it, police said.
