East Hartford officers came under fire early Thursday while responding to a report of people trying to break into cars. No one was injured.
The call about the car burglaries came in from Orchard Street about 1:15 a.m., police said. The officers arrived and saw two people walking between vehicles in a parking lot.
When they ordered the two to stop, the pair began to run away, police said. As they did, one turned around, pointed a handgun in the direction of the officers and fired a round, they said.
The officers were not struck by the gunfire and did not return fire, police said.
