BRISTOL — After a public works employee tested positive for the coronavirus, the city on Monday sent coworkers for testing, postponed routine projects and arranged for emergency backup in case Tuesday’s storm brings down trees.
Early indications are that there is no widespread infection in the public works department, but Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu said department supervisors had to act quickly to be certain.
“To be proactive, and out of an abundance of caution, we have closed Public Works streets road and construction operations for today and tomorrow,” Zoppo-Sassu announced late Monday.
The worker, who has showed no symptoms, got a positive test result on Saturday.
