Brazen shootings frustrate Hartford police as surge in gun violence continues despite crackdown

Continued gun violence in Hartford this week, including a pair of brazen shootings practically in plain view of uniformed police officers, has frustrated local law enforcement’s newest push to stamp out a rash of shootings in the capital city.

The city announced late last week that 15 state police personnel would be dispatched to help local detectives and a relatively quiet weekend followed, with just one shooting with an injury on Sunday night and about 40% fewer shots fired calls overall.

But the tenuous peace quickly fell apart when one man was shot to death and five more were injured in five separate shootings over just 48 hours from late Tuesday into late Thursday.
