The pickup struck the boy about 5 p.m. at 23 Brainard Road. Lt. Thomas Foy said police continue to investigate, but it appears to be an accident.
The truck driver, who police identified as Jonathan Riches of Enfield, knew the boy, Foy said, and he has been cooperating with investigators.
There appears to be no evidence that Riches was reckless or impaired at the time, he said. The truck was traveling extremely slowly when the accident happened.
