The body of a boater from Groton reported missing Friday was found north of Great Gull Island, N.Y. after a search that involved the Coast Guard and a number of local police and fire departments on Saturday, officials said.
The wife of Matthew Lyon, 49, reported him overdue to the Groton Police after Lyon left the Groton Elks Lodge and Marina in a 14-foot boat at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The body was located two nautical miles north of Great Gull at 9:47 a.m. and was taken to the Coast Guard Station in New Haven where it was identified.
