Avon is proposing a roughly $2.8 million increase in the budgets for schools and town government, a roughly 2.9% increase over this year.

About $1.6 million of the additional money would go to the education system, with the other $1.2 million being spent on municipal services, debt repayment, capital projects and the sewer department.

The town’s finance board hasn’t yet publicly calculated how that would affect the tax rate, but will present its detailed figures before the April 5 budget hearing. Taxpayers will get to decide on the budget May 12 at an referendum.

The school system is seeking $62.
