MANCHESTER — Amazon has signed a lease for a distribution center in a massive warehouse that also houses JC Penney and the food retailer that owns Stop & Shop.
The signing means the 2 million-square-foot warehouse at 1339 Tolland Turnpike will be fully occupied and operational this summer, employing well over 1,000 people, town planning and economic development Director Gary Anderson said Thursday.
Amazon is to occupy 350,000 square feet, mostly as a distribution center with some offices, Anderson said. The planning and zoning commission recently approved changes to the site plan to accommodate additional loading docks, trailer parking and other requested changes.
