An 87-year-old Winstead woman died Monday morning when she crashed her car into a building at Bridge and Willow streets.

Doris Marino was found unresponsive in her car after the crash and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police are investigating whether Marino suffered a medical emergency while driving, possibly causing the crash, but officials are waiting for the results of an autopsy, Police Chief William Fitzgerald Jr. said.

Marino's 2012 Nissan Sentra left the road and hit the lofts building at 10 Bridge Street just after 11 a.m. Monday, police said. The Sentra was the only car involved and Marino was its only occupant, but it sustained heavy front-end damage, police said.
