Waterbury’s top prosecutor has decided not to pursue disorderly conduct charges against 26 adults arrested during a recent Black Lives Matter protest in the city.
Maureen Platt, Waterbury’s state’s attorney, said Thursday that she has reviewed all of the arrest reports and found that the incidents were minor. She opted to dismiss the charges “in the spirit of beginning the healing process and allowing an honest and meaningful conversation as to how we can improve and transform our criminal justice system.”
“This means that these charges against these individuals will no longer be pursued by the state, and will be dismissed without the necessity of any individual appearing in court,” Platt said in a written statement.
