Whicker: Intentional tourists: How UCLA found itz Oz

MEMPHIS – When UCLA goes 15-17 in basketball, it’s like sneezing while you’re performing heart surgery.

It’s like visiting the in-laws for the first time and crashing into the family sedan.

It’s time to get away.

The Bruins spent 10 days on the other side of the equator in August. No one tried to stop them.

They played only three games on their trip to Australia. One was a walkover against college all-stars. The others were brawls against two experienced pro teams, and the Bruins took a split.

When they left they were survivors, newcomers, even victims.
