Irvine-based Western Digital is laying off 51 employees at its headquarters and 131 in San Jose, according to state filings.
Both layoffs are effective June 2.
Western Digital, a developer and manufacturer of hard drives and other storage systems, said it would provide severance packages.
“In response to an ever-changing industry, Western Digital is evaluating and transforming our business to ensure we deliver value to customers and remain competitive as a storage industry leader,” the company said in a statement. “Appropriately sizing and structuring our organization can be a component of our response to an evolving industry.
