The MLB opened their season with a World Series rematch between Max Scherzer and former UCLA Bruins star pitcher Gerrit Cole.
After signing the richest deal in MLB history for a pitcher, Cole’s debut for the New York Yankees against the Washington Nationals did not disappoint. Cole allowed a first-inning home run to Adam Eaton but after that, dealt a near flawless performance. The game was ultimately called off due to weather, but Cole finished the game with 5.0 innings pitched, just a single hit, one home run, one earned run, one walk and five strikeouts.
