UCLA's Ishmael Adams embraces team-first approach with position change

LOS ANGELES -- After starting 34 games on defense for UCLA over the past three seasons, Ishmael Adams fielded somewhat of an unorthodox request from coach Jim Mora when the 2015 season ended. The Bruins wanted Adams, a first-team All-Pac-12 selection at corner in 2014, to move to receiver.

Adams discussed the idea with Mora and UCLA secondary coach Demetrice Martin, but made his stance clear: “I’m willing to do whatever helps the team,” Adams said.

“They just realized that I had a great ability when I have the ball and they wanted to see what else I can do with the ball when it’s meant for me,” he said.
