UCLA opens camp in search of Brett Hundley's successor at quarterback

In 1999, Bob Toledo faced an almost identical dilemma to the one that Jim Mora confronts now.

He needed to replace an NFL quarterback.

Toledo, then the UCLA head coach, saw starter Cade McNown leave for the pros when he became a first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears. The left-handed McNown was the face of the program. He led the Bruins to back-to-back 10-win seasons for just the second time in their history, a feat only previously accomplished by Troy Aikman. Perhaps just as memorably, the four-year starter left with an unblemished record in four games against crosstown rival USC.
