LOS ANGELES – The packed Oak Hills High gymnasium in Hesperia roared as two future UCLA offensive linemen squared off on the wrestling mat back in February of 2013.
The two heavyweights, Kenny Clark, then of Carter High of Rialto, faced Alex Redmond, then of Los Alamitos, in the CIF-Southern Section Eastern Division finals. Neither yielded in a match that required three overtimes.
“That was a knock-down, drag-out battle,” Carter coach Kevin Hennessy said.
It eventually turned in Clark’s favor when he won the match on an escape move.
“They were both very evenly matched,” Hennessy said.
