The Bruins ran out of gas against ASU after their 17 inning victory late Saturday night/Sunday morning, dropping the series finale, 2-1.
The UCLA baseball team (36-12; 18-6 PAC 12) lost the battle yesterday afternoon, falling 2-1 on the road to the Arizona State Sun Devils (30-17; 14-9 PAC 12), but the Bruins won the war of the weekend, taking the series with a 9-0 victory on Friday night, and a 17 inning, 11-6 victory on Saturday night (and into Sunday morning).
Three factors likely played a part in the Bruins’ loss yesterday afternoon: (1) the fatigue from playing 17 innings the night before; (2) the Sun Devils’ desperation faced with potentially falling out of the PAC 12 Conference race; and (3) the fact that UCLA’s usual Sunday starter, Griffin Canning, was unable to play yesterday due to back spasms.
