UCLA advances in men's soccer playoffs

Jordan Vale's goal early in the second half was all UCLA needed in a 2-0 win over visiting Cal Poly on Thursday, sending the Bruins on to the second round of the NCAA men's soccer playoffs.

In another first-round tournament game, Luis Urias and Carlos Delgadillo scored before the break to lift Santa Clara over Cal State Fullerton, 3-0. The Titans, champions of the Big West Conference, finished 13-8-1.

Vale, a senior midfielder from New Zealand and one of nine UCLA players to earn all-conference honors, gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute.
