The MLB Draft keeps on rolling for the UCLA Bruins baseball team, as second baseman Chase Strumpf became the third Bruin drafted tonight when the Chicago Cubs took him 64th overall.
Strumpf has struggled a bit this year. I’m using struggle relative to last year, as this year he still hit .281/.420/.462 on the year, with seven home runs and 38 RBIs. Still, scouts love what they see from Strumpf, especially his swing mechanics, which many believe will translate at the next level.
Of course, UCLA was playing tonight’s game against LMU when he was chosen and Strumpf managed to be drafted as he was walking up to bat with two runners on and two outs with the Bruins nursing a one-run lead.
