As she rounded first base and saw a wild throw fly over the Fresno State third baseman, Cal State Fullerton’s Melissa Sechrest could only think of one thing: “Go! Go! Go!”
Sechrest’s single and the ensuing error by Fresno State left fielder Kierra Willis in the top of the seventh inning catapulted the Titans to a 6-4 win in their NCAA regional opener Friday at UCLA’s Easton Stadium.
With the game tied entering the final inning, Fullerton (44-14) scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh to knock off the 20th-ranked Bulldogs (41-11-1) and advance to a second-round game against UCLA (39-13-1) on Saturday at noon.
