NEWPORT BEACH – Firefighters spent 15 minutes cutting a motorist out of his car after it smashed into the side of a concrete building in the 6000 block of West Pacific Coast Highway and 61st Street around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, authorities said.
The driver, who was alone in the white coup, was taken to a hospital as a trauma patient in serious condition, Battalion Chief Brian McDonough said.
The building, an Army & Navy Store, had minor damage.
The cause of the crash was under investigation Thursday morning, and the driver had not been cited for a crime, police said.
