LOS ANGELES – Late in its 81-74 win over Arizona State on Saturday afternoon, UCLA looked in jeopardy of falling to 1-3 in conference play for the first time in almost 20 years.
The Bruins had trailed for almost 13 minutes in the second half, and the game had turned into a seesaw-like affair with 11 lead changes.
The 12th one proved critical.
With the teams knotted at 74 apiece, the Bruins center Thomas Welsh grabbed an offensive rebound and wrestled it away from a couple Arizona State forwards.
“With rebounding, I think the guy who wants it most was going to get it,” Welsh said.
