LOS ANGELES – Before Tony Sanchez stepped onto the sideline in DeKalb, Ill., for UNLV’s season opener, the first-year coach had already joined select company.
When Sanchez was tapped to lead the Rebels’ downtrodden program last December, he became only the fifth high school coach to make the direct jump to the highest division of college football.
“It’s not much different,” said Sanchez, nine months into his new job and a few days after his team’s 38-30 loss to Northern Illinois. “If you do it at a high level; you do it at a high level.
