PASADENA – In the days before UCLA’s final nonconference game against BYU, offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone said the Cougars would serve as a good barometer for the 10th-ranked Bruins.
They certainly did.
On the heels of consecutive double-digit wins over Virginia and UNLV, UCLA faced its stiffest test of the season against No.19 BYU, a physical bunch that also came into the game unbeaten. Using a dominant running game to offset a rough outing from freshman quarterback Josh Rosen, UCLA rallied for a 24-23 victory Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 67,612 at the Rose Bowl.
