UCLA built an early nine-run lead then held on to edge Long Beach State, 11-10, in a wild nonconference game Tuesday night at Blair Field.
Luke Persico went 3 for 5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, Brett Urabe went 2 for 5 with two RBI and three runs scored and Sean Bouchard (1 for 5) had three RBI to pace the Bruins (21-21).
Nathan Hadley (1-0) earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings (three strikeouts) of relief, and Moises Ceja pitched the final two innings (three strikeouts) for his fourth save.
