A record 20,000 people filled the plaza over the weekend for the 23rd annual Orange Plaza Car Show, which saw enthusiasts young and old flood the heart of Old Towne alongside 350 classic cars, organizers said.
Hosted by the Orange Plaza Rotary Club, the show features pre-1976 street rods and custom and classic vehicles.
This year shattered the previous record of 15,000 attendees, thanks to a social media push and a special appearance by the Anaheim Ducks, which visited the show as one of the final stops of its “Paint It Orange” tour to build hype for the playoffs, event chair Rae Shirer said
As the Orange Plaza Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser, the event brings in up to $30,000 each year to support the club’s annual projects – including fixing up homes for local residents with disabilities and senior citizens and the “Mentor Meals” program, which brings El Modena High School juniors together with alumni for regular mentoring over dinner.
