The greatest season in school history is complete for the UCF Knights. UCF, led by now-Nebraska head coach Scott Frost, beat the #7 Auburn Tigers SCORE in the Peach Bowl to complete an undefeated season. Turnovers were critical in this one, with Auburn giving it away twice, including a pick-six.
Auburn had a chance to tie the game with 2:18 left in the game after a missed UCF field goal. The Tigers got the ball to the UCF 21-yard line with 33 seconds left, but Stidham threw a brutal INT under pressure to end the game.
QB McKenzie Milton was the MVP for UCF. He completed 16 of 35 passes for 242 yards and two TDs through the air, plus 116 yards and a score on the ground. Tre'Quan Smith was his favorite target, with five catches for 89 yards.
Jarrett Stidham completed 28 of 44 passes for 331 yards and one TD, but also threw two critical INTs. Kerryon Johnson was limited to just 71 yards and a TD on 21 carries. Will Hastings had six catches for 117 yards and a TD.
It was a slow-starting game, with only an Auburn field goal in the first quarter. UCF led 13-6 at the end of the first half, thanks in part to a 45-yard field goal as time expired.
The Auburn offense got going in the third quarter, with two touchdowns to take a 20-13 lead. But after that, it was all UCF. Milton threw two touchdowns to give UCF a lead in the fourth quarter. The critical play was a pick-6 by Chequan Burkett to put the Knights up by 14. They would not give up that lead, although Auburn would score with under five minutes to go to cut into the lead.
