There aren't too many situations where UCF quarterbacks coach Danny Barrett can't relate to with his players.
Years ago, he was thrust into leading Cincinnati's offense the third game of his sophomore year in college when the team's starting quarterback was injured. Barrett, a backup quarterback, was playing free safety in the two games before his first collegiate start at quarterback.
Coincidentally, Barrett tore a ligament in his right thumb and played the rest of that season with a splint on his throwing hand.
"I told them I didn't want to have surgery until the end of the season because I waited too long for my opportunity," said Barrett, who earned All-America honors with the Bearcats in 1982.
