The UCF women’s basketball team fell short of getting its first-ever NCAA tournament victory, instead losing 62-51 to No. 7 seed Northwestern in the first round Monday.
The game was a battle of defenses. Wildcats senior Lindsey Pulliam entered the day with the stated goal of matching UCF’s defense, which led the NCAA this season while averaging 49.9 points allowed per game.
Despite a quick start for the Knights, the game changed when they were forced to manage without one of their best players for most of the game.
After leading the team with an early six-point performance, junior Diamond Battles suffered a knee injury in the second quarter.
