During a typical season, UCF football coaches would be racking up the frequent flyer miles and hotel points as they worked to wrap up another recruiting class.
When the NCAA mandated a dead period for recruiting in March, it forced coaches to replace in-person visits with virtual ones. FaceTime, Zoom and Skype quickly became the new norms, with coaches forced to rely on video conferencing and game tape to scout potential prospects.
“I think the hardest part is [not] having that in-person contact with people,” UCF coach Josh Heupel said. “The ability to see some of your recruits.
