UCF's 'Wide Receiver U' is still in session.
Despite being one of the hardest hit position groups in terms of graduation and early departures, the Knights were still able to pull off historic numbers during their season opener thanks to the steady hands of junior quarterback Justin Holman.
Two underclassman receivers, Jordan Akins and Tre'Quan Smith, each recorded career-best 104 receiving yards during UCF's loss to FIU Sept. 3.
Since George O'Leary started his coaching tenure with the Knights in 2004, he's only seen two 100-yard receiving performances in a season opener twice. The first time came in 2005 when receivers Brandon Marshall and Mike Sims-Walker with combined quarterback Steven Moffett for 207 yards during a 24-15 season-opening loss to South Carolina.
