UCF football coach Josh Heupel has left to take over as the Tennessee Volunteers’ head coach, following former Knights athletics director Danny White and leaving the program with two major vacancies to fill.
“I am thrilled to be coming to Tennessee,” Heupel said in a Tennessee news release. “I understand that Volunteer fans are hungry for a return to the top that they so richly deserve, and it is my goal and commitment to bring a championship back to Rocky Top.”
Heupel first emerged as top candidate for the Tennessee job Tuesday night and his departure was set by early Wednesday morning, a source told the Orlando Sentinel.
