HARTFORD, Conn — Last week, the UCF football team held midseason tryouts looking for extra bodies to help the practice team. The need to add more healthy bodies became abundantly clear after Saturday's taxing 24-16 victory over UConn Saturday.
UCF almost walked off Rentschler Field without three key defensive lineman.
Coaches already declared junior nose guard Jamiyus Pittman unable to compete before the game as he stood on the sidelines leaning on crutches. Joey Connors left the game after sustaining an injury to what appeared to be his left ankle. Trysten Hill, a rising star freshman lineman, hobbled to the locker room with the help of two athletic trainers in the first quarter, but he returned to finish the game much to the relief of first-year head coach Scott Frost.
