The UCF defense was much maligned after missing tackles and giving up 486 yards against UConn in the season opener, so the Knights’ defenders took the field on a mission Saturday night against South Carolina State.
Defensive end Titus Davis, linebacker Pat Jasinski and safety Kyle Gibson were three of the main aggressors for UCF, as the defensive unit swarmed to the ball, rarely missed tackles and created three turnovers and a sack. Couple that with the play of the special teams unit, which had several long returns and a blocked field-goal attempt, and the result was UCF’s first shutout of an opponent since the 2016 opener — also against South Carolina State by the same 38-0 score.
