UCF basketball looking for more productive starts

After nearly four months, UCF basketball coach Donnie Jones is still searching for a way to fix his team's split personality.

The Knights often limp along during a first-half slump before sprinting through a last-minute, heroic attempt to pull off a victory. In fact, UCF outscored its past two opponents, Memphis and Tulsa, in the second half but failed to overcome early deficits and close the seemingly oceanic gaps between victory and defeat.

And while Jones saw sporadic improvement against the Golden Hurricane — better free-throw shooting and the re-emergence of senior forward Stephan Blair — it's unclear whether UCF is capable of putting together two consistent halves of basketball.
