UCF athletics director Danny White vocally lobbied for the expansion of the College Football Playoff after the Knights were never considered for a bid despite posting back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2017-18.
“I love it,” White told the Orlando Sentinel. “I think three years ago, it was pretty much just us talking about it and we got ridiculed for it. But I felt very strongly then and I do now that four teams are not an adequate postseason. I also think the subjective nature by which we’re ranking those four teams is not fair to the process.”
The 13-member playoff selection committee, which ranks and determines the four teams competing in two semifinal games, came under heavy criticism this season for some of its choices, including ranking an undefeated Cincinnati team below a two-loss Oklahoma team and a three-loss Florida team.
