At first, there was anger.
Richard Lapchick looked at the images of people scattered about the Louisiana Superdome, a place devoid of hope after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. People on mattresses and cots, listless on the floor. Broken, much like the remnants of their homes.
It wasn't much longer before Lapchick would look those people in the eye, after making a humanitarian relief trip with officials from the Orlando Magic.
It was there that Lapchick's outrage turned to hope. New Orleans had given up on many residents from the Lower Ninth Ward. But they weren't giving up on themselves.
