As a young black man, however, the former Orlando Evans High and UCF defensive back still fears that everything could change at any moment.
It happened during his senior year at Evans High, in 2011 when he was pulled over one night by Apopka police and Orange County sheriff’s officers. He recalled suddenly wondering, “Am I going to make it home?”
During the traffic stop, he was ordered to place his hands on the hood of the car while police searched the vehicle. He reached to pull up his pants and swiftly had two guns pointed in his face.
