UCF athletics director Danny White has long touted the school’s record-setting fundraising to help support championship programs, including high-profile postseason runs by the football and men’s basketball teams.
But the long-term economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic has forced White and his staff to make cuts while trying to avoid losing any momentum.
“We’re in a better position than what I would have said if you asked me last May,” White said in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel. “But it changes a lot as we’re trying to figure this out.”
The department froze all salaries and spending in July while asking staff and coaches to reduce their respective budgets by 10% across the board.
