Aresco, whose current deal ran through 2022, was hired to lead the Big East in 2012 before it fractured apart forming the AAC in 2013.
During his time as commissioner, he’s seen the American undergo tremendous change growing into one of the premier conferences outside of the Power Five leagues. The AAC has earned the top spot for the Group of Five in the New Year’s Six Access bowl five times including four consecutive seasons.
“Mike Aresco is an excellent leader and a tireless advocate on behalf of the American Athletic Conference and our 12 member institutions,” said Tulane President Michael Fitts, who is the chairman of the AAC’s board of directors.
