A family affair highlighted the final game of the UAB Baseball opening weekend.
The team opened its season with a three-game sweep of the Creighton University Bluejays that began Friday, Feb. 17.
At the start of the final game, UAB sophomore pitcher Matthew Calvert’s son and girlfriend walked to the infield to throw out the first pitch. After catching the first pitch, Calvert handed the ball to his son, pulled a ring out of his pocket and got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend, Amanda Love.
After the excitement, the Blazers starting pitchers allowed just one run in 19 innings pitched over the three-day span.
