Tulsa defender Gustavo Vargas was named as the American Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the league office.
Vargas, a sophomore from Bogota, Columbia, scored two goals last week off of corner kicks. His goal against Creighton came in the 41st minute and gave Tulsa a 1-0 lead heading into the break, while his goal against #19 SMU was the game-winner in the 94th minute. He had three total shots, two of which were on goal, while playing every minute of both contests. On the defensive side of the ball, he held SMU to a shutout.
