Eighty years ago this month, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team began a streak that would become a first in college football history.
On January 1, 1942, Tulsa made its first-ever bowl game appearance, playing Texas Tech in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. In a game that remained scoreless for most of the 60 minutes, the Hurricane mounted a 71-yard scoring drive with just a few minutes left on the game clock as Glenn Dobbs threw a 32-yard TD strike to Sax Judd for the victory.
The game became the first of five straight January 1 bowl game appearances for the Golden Hurricane, thus making Tulsa the first school to ever make five straight New Year's Day Bowl Games.
