PARIS, France — In the second event in the Grand Slam of Tennis, former University of Tulsa tennis standout Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador) and teammate Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands) advanced to Saturday's French Open Doubles Championship with a three-set victory in Thursday's semifinal match.
After dropping the opening set 6-4, Arevalo and Rojer rebounded to tie the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set and outlasted the team of Matwe' Middelkoop (Netherlands) and Rohan Bopanna (India) 7-6 in a third-set tiebreaker. Arevalo and Rojer won the tiebreaker 10-8.
The 12th-seeded duo will face off against the team of Austin Krajicek (USA) and Ivan Dodig (Croatia) in the French Open Doubles Championship Match.
