It's been said that in sports, power is a key to high performance. That's partially true to the extent that a powerful athlete, at any body size, is a formable opponent -- all things being equal.

Power is how quickly you can deliver your strength. From a baseball pitching perspective, power is mass (baseball) times distance (to the plate) divided by time (ball speed). In boxing, it's the mass of the fist times the boxer's reach divided by the impact speed.
Hidden in these two examples is a key component -- acceleration.
