Tulane's Tanzel Smart chosen by the L.A. Rams in the 6th round of the 2017 NFL Draft

defensive tackle Tanzel Smart was chosen by the L.A. Rams with the 189th pick in the 6th round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

The Baton Rouge native was a two-time first-team All-AAC selection while he was a member of the Green Wave and ended his career with 190 total tackles (40.5 for loss) and 9.5 sacks.

During his senior season in 2016, Smart accounted for 67 total tackles (18.5 for loss) and 5.5 sacks--which were all career-highs.

Smart is the first Tulane player to be chosen in the NFL Draft since Lorenzo Doss (fifth round) and Taurean Nixon (seventh round) both were picked by the Denver Broncos in the 2015 Draft.
