Tulane scored eight runs in the first inning and did not look back on its way to a 16-8 win at Cincinnati in its American Athletic Conference series opener on a cold and windy Friday evening at Marge Schott Stadium.
The Green Wave (13-17 overall, 3-1 American) tacked on three runs in the seventh, one in the eighth and four in the ninth inning to reach its highest run and hit (18) totals of the season.
Lex Kaplan led the Wave with four hits in a 4-for-5, three-RBI, two-run night. Grant Witherspoon was 3-for-5 and accounted for eight runs alone, with five RBI and three runs scored from the top of the order.
