Tulane pulled off a nail-biting 9-8 win Friday over West Virginia thanks to Grant Brown's ninth-inning single to left field, which scored Paul Gozzo. The win at Turchin Stadium ended a seven-game losing streak for the Green Wave.
"I'm just happy for the kids tonight," said Tulane coach Travis Jewett. "They really deserved that win," he said.
Tulane held a 7-0 lead through five innings before West Virginia struck for 5 runs in the sixth inning.
"We just didn't throw a lot of strikes out of the bullpen tonight," said Jewett. "When you do that, you give people free bases which can get that scoreboard close.
